The Japan Fashion Week Organization (JFWO), originally launched as the Fashion Strategy Forum in 2005, celebrates its 20th anniversary with the 2026 Spring/Summer season. On this milestone occasion, JFWO reflects on the distinctive history of a fashion week that could only have been possible in Tokyo and renews its commitment to creating an even more compelling fashion week that builds on the rich legacy shaped by generations of talented designers.

The first fashion week was held in 2006, presenting S/S (October 2005) until the upcoming 2026 S/S (September 2025) with a total of 524 participating brands. A wide range of participants, including various Asian countries and regions (as hubs of Asia), Africa, which is becoming a new fashion trend, and European brands that focus on the Japanese market.

In 2014, JFWO established a new award program aimed at showcasing the potential of Japanese designers both domestically and abroad. Through this initiative, many designers and brands have gained opportunities to present their work at overseas shows and showrooms, helping to expand their presence on the international stage.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Japan Fashion Week Organization (JFWO) organize the Fashion Prize of Tokyo, with the goal of promoting emerging Tokyo-based fashion designers on the global stage by supporting their fashion show in Paris.
